Iraq State of Emergency

The US Prepares all-out offensive on Falluja in Iraq, and the leaders have declared a 60-day state of emergency in Iraq. Residents of Falluja are fleeing the city in advance of the US attack, bringing the population down to 50,000 from the normal 250,000. US Warplanes have bombarded targets to prepare for the offensive.

The State of Emergency was conveniently declared shortly after the US elections. I suppose declaring a “State of Emergency” wouldn’t be good press for President Bush in a war that he’s losing politically and strategically.
