Helping someone move 4

This sounds like something from a Seinfeld episode, but I’m going to ask the question. How well do you have to know somebody before you can ask them to help you move?

I went to a hockey tournament in Montreal a few weeks ago, and I only knew 1 person on the hockey team pre-weekend. After spending 2 days with the team, apparently one of the guys felt like he knows me well enough to ask me to help him move. Either that, or he was very desperate to find someone to help him, because a week after the tournament I received an email from him asking if I can help him move on the July 1st long weekend. I don’t mind helping someone move, but it’s a pretty large ask to query someone that you barely know to help you move on a long weekend. Unfortunately I already had plans, so I had to turn it down.

So the real question, how well do you have to know someone? Is 2 days enough time? ;)

    No,you should know someone a lot longer than 2 days.Moving is not a fun experience for the helpers,so usually it is your closest friends,people you work with every day or family.Then,they feel obligated to help you,because they know you will still be around when they need a favour from you.

    I like to think that your friends will volunteer to help move, which likely means, as well, that the friendship would be older than two days. It’s not a good sign if you’re having to make calls yourself to recruit your friends to help move.

    That is sad. I think the guy is desperate for friends. Maybe he was hoping you would be his next best friend.
