Five books that mean a lot to me:
A Thousand Shall Fall by Murray Peden
This is my all time favourite book. Extremely well written account of a young Canadian bomber pilot. I don’t usually admit this, but this book has made me cry on multiple occasions. To me it’s unfathomable what this young strong man had to go through, and how fast he had to grow up. I cannot find the words to say enough about this book.
The Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer
Another unbelievable story of what a very young foot solider experienced. Its authenticity has been questioned, but it’s irrelevant to me. Many young soliders experienced similar atrocities, and it’s unbelievable how one’s soul can be lost forever.
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Most people are familiar with this book. I can’t read this book enough.
Stalingrad by Antony Beevor
A definitive account of the worst battle in World War II that I’ve ever read about
Almost by Joseph J. Gelleny
An amazingly interesting story of a Canadian who was recruited through Camp X to become a British SOE agent who was later captured and tortured inside Hungary. Very entertaining.
