Multi-purpose Puppies 4

In a drug raid in Columbia in 2005, officials found 10 Labrador drug dogs with heroin in their stomachs; used to smuggle drugs into the United States.

This reminded me of another part of the world where my friend was backpacking China and he came across a fresh meat market. Below are 3 pictures he sent back from the market.

It seems dogs are used for different things around the world. Here in Canada I use my dog as a pet and a companion.

    Those backward Chinese!! I thought it was a stereotype but I guess not.

    The Columbian photos are just evil. I hope those people rot for doing that

    Why is it that as Westerners we automatically assume the other way is backwards?

    Why is a cow’s life or a pig’s life worth less than a dog’s life to you?

    I love dogs…I do. I wouldn’t eat one. But I also wouldn’t eat a cow or a pig…just a decision I have made in terms of how I live my life. However, I don’t assume that all people who enjoy steak are ‘backwards’.

    But I just think that maybe people here should think about things with a bit of an open mind.

    It is automatic assumptions that the ‘other’ is wrong that often lead to some form of racism/discrimination/feelings of superiority over others.

    Not a good thing.

    And as for the comment about using dogs to smuggle drugs…do you feel that strongly about using people as well?

    That story about the Colombian dogs was SO sad :’( If humans are doing it, at least it’s a conscious choice and they understand what it entails.

    As for the dogs in China, I do think it’s sad and personally would never feel the urge to eat dog meat. However, chickens, pigs, and cows are treated in the same way in North America (though not so publicly displayed). It’s unfair to judge people simply because we as a culture are more attached to one animal than another; as long as animals are treated humanely and not unnecessarily hurt (which sadly isn’t always the case) we can’t really say very much without being hypocrites.
