260K for Kids 30

On the weekend of August 26th and 27th I’ll be doing a fundraiser where I’ll be riding my bicycle 260 kilometers in two days from Toronto to Welland and back. I’ve set a lofty goal to raise $1000 for my Aunt who runs a foster home in the Philippines for kids without parents. She has been living there for the past 17 years.

I think this is a good cause because when you give money to organizations like United Way, your money doesn’t get very far beause there is a large amount of overhead. When you give money to my Aunt’s home, you bypass the overhead. My Aunt lives in the home, she eats the same rice, and she only flies back to Canada every couple years, so her expenses are very minimal. You know that when you donate money to her, it goes straight to the kids who need it.

I figure if I can raise $200-300 for United Way to simply climb the CN Tower, I should definitely be able to raise $1000 to ride my bicycle 260KMs. This will also serve as a primer for my Toronto to Montreal bicycle ride which I plan to do in a year or two.

So step up friends and make a pledge. Even if it’s just $10 or $20, every little bit counts, and $20 can buy a lot in the Philippines when you consider foreign currency. I will provide tax receipts for donations of $20 or more, so there’s another good reason to pledge. I’m going to personally contribute $200 and I’m hoping to raise at least another $800 from all of you to make a total of $1000 or hopefully even more.

To make a pledge, simply post a comment on this website with your name, or if you’d like some privacy, just email me @ jim_schwartz9 at yahoo dot com. Or if you’re interested in riding along with me on August 26th and 27th, that works as well.

Thanks in advance!!

Barry, stop giving me so much credit. I was honestly going to do this bike ride anyway, so I just figured I might as well raise money while I’m at it.

Put down 10 big ones for me (you know I eat rice every day too).

I’ll consider a larger donation if you post pics of your red ass afterwards… wait a sec, no I won’t.
