Can you believe he was originally sentenced to 10 years in jail? Can you also believe he was also charged with a second charge of rape? (He was aquitted of the rape charge)
Wilson stood his ground and denied the opportunity to be released from jail months earlier in a plea deal. Had he chosen to make a plea deal, he would have been registered in Georgia's sex offender registry.
The law in Georgia has changed as a result, so at least something good came out of this harsh and unusual punishment of Wilson.
But what's most interesting about his case is the irony in his attorney's name: B.J. Bernstein. At first I thought this was a cruel joke, but it's very true. Her name is Brenda Joy (B.J.) Bernstein, and she specializes in sexual abuse cases.
