Where is the Love? 5

I listen to songs primarily for the music and if the song also has good lyrics it makes the song that much better. It’s been quite some time since I’ve heard a song that was extremely powerful in the lyrics and also sounded great musically. The most profound song for me personally is still John Lennon’s “Imagine”.

A song by the Black Eyed Peas entitled “Where is the Love” recently grabbed my attention. The song is great and the lyrics are about as powerful as they come. This is truly a great song.

Here’s an excerpt of the song’s lyrics:

What’s wrong with the world mama?
People living like aint got no mamas

I think the whole worlds addicted to the drama
Only attracted to the things that bring you trauma

Overseas yeah we tryin to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin
In the USA the big CIA the Bloodz and the Crips and the KKK

But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And if you hatin you’re bound to get irate

Yeah madness is what you demonstrate
And that’s exactly how anger works and operates
You gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate

Let your soul gravitate to the love y’all

    here’s what i don’t get… he’s all like…

“Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting their young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what the see in the cinema
Whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness and equality”

and then half of the video is him and people being kept down by the man. so are they helping or perpetuating the conflict?

lennon would never have mixed his signals like these guys. never.

    g,

Isn’t that the whole point of the video? To show the all the f’d up stuff going on in the world and ask “where is the love”?

Did they even have music videos back when Lennon was alive?? 😛

If you like this song then I think you will also appreciate another song by the Black Eyed Peas featuring Sting (love him!). It’s called Union and it absolutely amazing, the melody and the lyrics are just perfect. Its one of my favorite contemplative songs of all time 🙂

    Here is an excerpt:

We don’t want war- can’t take no more
    It’s drastic time for sure
We need a antidote and a cure
Coz do you really think Mohammed got a problem with Jehovah
We don’t want war – imagine if any prophet was alive
In current days amongst you and I
You think they’d view life like you and I do
Or would they sit and contemplate on why
Do we live this way, act and behave this way
We still live in primitive today
Coz the peace in the destination of war can’t be the way
There’s no way, so people just be ’em wanna be a man
Realise that you can’t change the world by changing yourself
And understand that we’re all just the same
So when I count to three let’s change
