2 days later, The $252.92 Idiot 2

I’m probably the biggest idiot I’ve ever met. On Sunday evening I came back from watching a movie with my little brother. I parked my car out front of my building on the street because I was supposed to meet up with a buddy shortly after and I wanted to avoid the parking garage to save some time.

Well as it turned out it wasn’t a good night for my buddy, so we didn’t end up meeting. I completely forgot about my car, and the thought didn’t even cross my mind until this evening (2 days later). So after making a few phone calls, and a subway and bus ride to the middle of nowhere, I picked up my car at the pound only to have to pay a total of $252.92. $60 went to the city, and $192.92 went to the towing company. They charged me $64 for storing it for a day and a half ($32/day).

Every time I applaud myself for living in the city and walking to work and saving lots of money from not relying on a car, I pull a stupid stunt like this. Last year I helped a friend moved and got a $30 parking ticket. I figured since I already had a ticket, I’d leave it there for a couple more hours. Surely they won’t give me another ticket in 2 hours. Well, less than 2 hours later, I was $60 in debt to the city. Just a couple months ago I was driving Han to work and I took a left turn on a street where I wasn’t supposed to turn left from 7AM-9AM, but I opted to do it simply because there were no cars around, so I wouldn’t be impeding traffic (Hence the purpose of the sign). But there was a cop sitting there and he wrote me a nice $110 ticket for that one.

Now I’m over $500 in the hole, and I normally only drive my car a couple times a week for hockey. When will I ever learn my lesson and get my act together?

Well since it is Halloween, I might as well wear a dunce cap tonight.

That’s pretty frustrating, Jim. Don’t be too hard on yourself, it sounds like it’s just a streak of bad luck.

Aww don’t be too hard on yourself, happens to the best of us.

Also a note on parking tickets, never ever pay them. I had three last year, requested a court date for all of them, and a year and half later, haven’t heard a wiff. Hurahhh for back logged courts!
