A locust invasion in the Sahel region in Africa and unfavourable weather conditions have left the region with a severe food crisis and malnutrition.
Here are some quick facts on the crisis:
- Almost 8 million people are currently threatened by the severe food shortages
- In Niger, the UN has found that 3.6 million of the country's 12 million people are directly affected.
- In the Tahoua and Maradi regions, the rate of severe malnutrition is 3 and 7% respectively.
